Strengthening Evidence. Advancing Economic Growth.
India’s growth trajectory is increasingly shaped by the quality of its data, the depth of its economic analysis, and the effectiveness of policy decisions at the State and district levels. As development challenges grow more complex—ranging from regional disparities and employment stress to climate risks and fiscal pressures—the need for rigorous analytics and evidence-based economic planning has become imperative.
Despite sustained economic progress, significant disparities persist across districts and regions. Uneven growth, sectoral imbalances, gaps in infrastructure and livelihoods, and limited real-time decision support continue to constrain inclusive and sustainable development. While large volumes of data are generated across departments, the absence of integrated analysis, contextual interpretation, and actionable insights often limits their use in policy formulation and programme design.
The Analytic & Economic Council (AEC) is envisioned as a dedicated platform to address these challenges by strengthening the analytical backbone of governance and economic planning. The Council seeks to bridge the gap between data and decision-making by translating complex datasets into meaningful insights that support policy formulation, resource prioritisation, and programme effectiveness.
India also faces the challenge of aligning economic growth with social inclusion, climate resilience, and long-term sustainability. District-level variations in income, employment, human development indicators, and access to services demand tailored, evidence-driven interventions rather than one-size-fits-all solutions. The AEC responds to this need by focusing on district-specific development gap analysis, sectoral performance assessments, and forward-looking economic evaluations.
At the same time, rapid changes in markets, technology, labour dynamics, and climate conditions require continuous monitoring and adaptive policy responses. The AEC aims to support governments and institutions with robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks, economic forecasting, and data dashboards that enable timely and informed decision-making.
By institutionalising research, analytics, and economic advisory functions, the Analytic & Economic Council will contribute to improved governance outcomes, more efficient allocation of public resources, and accelerated socio-economic development. The Council represents a strategic effort to ensure that growth is not only faster, but also more balanced, resilient, and equitable—driven by evidence, guided by analysis, and responsive to the real needs of citizens.
